Ephedra weight loss has hit the headlines recently as being the new miracle cure for those of us struggling to lose pounds.

Ephedra is a natural herb and thus people who market this product are claiming that as it is all natural it has to be good for you.  They say it can help you to achieve safe weight loss. This is not the case and in fact this herb has been linked to causing heart attacks.  Just because something grows in nature does not necessarily mean that it is good for you.  Hemlock and Opium are both natural products yet both kill.

Ephedra weight loss is caused by the herb influencing Norepinephrine, a chemical pathway in your brain.  Norepinephrine is the fight or flight chemical and increasing the amount of this in your body will suppress your appetite.  The result is that you eat less which in turn means that the pounds fall off.    In addition the herb also causes your metabolism to increase thus burning calories faster.  So you eat less and you burn what you are consuming faster hence why Ephedra has become so popular.  But the bad news is that interfering with the body’s chemical make up in this way produces side effects.    In this case the side effect are the fact your heart rate increases as does your blood pressure.  This leaves you at a significantly increased risk of heart attack.

Losing pounds with an Ephedra weight loss product is similar to trying to lose weight by drinking loads of caffeine or taking it in the form of amphetamines or smoking lots of cigarettes. No professional health advisor would ever recommend any of these remedies. You may lose the excess weight but you may also die in the process.

So what is the answer? So forget about Ephedra weight loss and concentrate on a healthier solution.  You can do this and you can achieve your new slimmer figure without putting your health at further risk.
