Safe Weight Loss Pills
There are safe weight loss pills available but only via your doctor or medical adviser. The supplements you buy over the counter or on the internet are, generally speaking, not safe to use. The prescription drugs have to go through years of testing before being made available. But the pills you see advertised on TV or on the internet have probably not been tested. The claims made about their effectiveness are often exaggerated.
One example is the recent Hoodia frenzy. Hoodia is a natural remedy traditionally used by African tribesman to prevent hunger when they went off on long hunts. In tests, people who took these pills on average ate 1000 less calories than those who took the placebo. Hoodia appears to stimulate your hypothalamus. So everything looks positive so far. But before you rush out to buy some of this wonder drug, you should know that more Hoodia has been sold in the last couple of years than has been harvested in the history of this plant being available. This means that a number of the supplements you buy that claim to contain this substance are lying and you are wasting your money. Rapid weight loss diets don’t work so don’t waste time on them.
The safe weight loss pills your doctor will prescribe help to regulate your brain chemistry and prevent you constantly obsessing about food. They are not wonder drugs and will not make your fat cells disappear but they should help you lose 5 to 10% more weight. They are particularly useful for those people who have reached a plateau and just cannot lose any more pounds no matter what they do.
The bad news is the effects of these drugs only last for as long as you are taking them and your doctor will not allow you to stay on them indefinitely. In fact your medical advisor will take some persuading to issue safe weight loss pills in the first place. Although these drugs have been tested, they do have some unpleasant side effects. Some are worse than others but common side effects are reduced libido, constipation or diarrhea and increased blood pressure as they speed up your metabolism.
Your doctor will use these drugs as a last resort. You will need to convince him that you have changed your diet and are taking more exercise but are still struggling to lose pounds. Your BMI will also have to be over a certain level i.e. he needs to be convinced that the fact you are obese, defined as having a BMI over 30, is more risk to your health than the side effects of medication.
Don’t be tempted to take amphetamines although they will suppress your appetite. So will cigarettes for that matter. But you do not want to lose weight at risk to your health and both these substances are far riskier than carrying extra pounds.
Safe weight loss pills like Orlistat or Xenical are appearing on the market all the time. There is a lot of money in the lose weight market and so drug companies are keen to have part of this multibillion dollar market. These tablets work on your gut rather than your brain and the initial results look promising. Avoid at all costs products like Ephedra weight loss and similar offerings as they are not regulated and could seriously damage your health.
